This book is great and very informative. I was required to purchase it for a class, and I have found it very helpful in giving strategies that I can implement with my students quickly. The book is well organized, and easy to read. I'm glad I own it. However, the book is falling apart. I use the book often, but I wouldn't say I'm rough on it. I don't throw it around and it stays at home on my desk. With normal page turning, during the first use I had three pages fall out. I'm constantly having to tape pages back in, and it makes turning other pages awkward. It is frustrating!

Teaching Reading Sourcebook offers detailed and useful information. However, the book arrived with bent corners and wrinkled pages. I believe the book must have been damaged during shipping. Normally, this isn't something that would bother me. In this particular case, I paid extra to have a new book- $60.00. I should have received a book in new condition. It wasn't worth the time or effort to exchange the book.

This book is very useful! I bought it for a graduate course but have found myself referencing the techniques and activities suggested. This book has many useful activities and worksheet examples. I am a third grade teacher and I have used a few activities in my own classroom already with great success. I definitely recommend this book for reading teachers at the elementary level.

This edition is filled with information. It is almost double the size of the previous edition. I do not own the previous edition but have used it in the past. I wanted to buy one to have for myself. I have not been able to use it yet, but I am excited by all the information.

Very great book and I highly recommend it. An ESL teacher's must-have. This book has helped me to address multiple points of entry formerly known as "differentiation" in NYC public schools. The book is easy to read with short chapters. The best part is it has lesson plans that are right on the money unlike plans that I've looked at on websites for ideas that require a complete overhaul. Great book.

The book is thorough, and provides samples in the back. The book is well organized and informative. The book has a lot of pages, but uses many illustrations to support the content.

Iâ€™m going to say again just how impressed I am with these Prequels. I usually hate prequels, they donâ€™t normally do a lot for the characters or the main body of stories that I really like. But that isnâ€™t the case here. Sure it is a prequel but whether you already read the Riyria Chronicles or you just started with these I think nothing is diminished if anything it makes me think that the Riyria Chronicles are even better.First, I loved this story. It was interesting, full of action and suspense and a bit of a mystery as well. Someone is trying to kill the Lady Dulgath and Royce and Hadrian are supposed to plot how someone could do it so that the Sheriff can protect her. What could possibly go wrong???Second, I always like Hadrian and Royce together they are so different and yet they compliment each other so well. Hadrian the ever trusting swordsman that doesnâ€™t want to kill anymore and Royce the cynical, untrusting â€˜Iâ€™d rather kill you than have to deal with you again laterâ€™ make the perfect odd coupling. *** â€œChurches donâ€™t kill people,â€ Hadrian told her. â€œThey burn incense, collect tithes, and mutter words in forgotten languagesâ€”they donâ€™t put out contracts on high-ranking nobles.â€ Scarlett and Royce exchanged glances, then both shook their heads. Royce hooked a thumb in Hadrianâ€™s direction. â€œSee what I have to put up with?â€ â€œAdorable,â€ Scarlett said. ***Third, there is the Lady Dulgath herself. I tried most of the book to figure out what she was and I never figured it out. I love it when that happens. Especially when later when you do know it makes complete sense and is great. Her interactions with Royce were really good and I liked the way she played with him and made him uncomfortable.*** â€œI wonder who your parents are,â€ she said, leaving Royce baffled. â€œWhat?â€ â€œYour parentsâ€”who are they?â€ â€œHatred and disillusionment, how about you?â€ She smiled at him, the same unperturbed grin, as if he were great fun. â€œYou know,â€ Royce said, â€œmost young ladies would be terrified to find someone like me in their room.â€ â€œYou know, most men would be terrified to be caught uninvited in the bedroom of a countess, but thenâ€¦â€ She took a slow step forward. â€œYouâ€™re not a man, are you?â€ ***Fourth, you are never quite sure who is on whoâ€™s side until the last minuteâ€¦and even then it isnâ€™t always absolutely clear.Fifth, is the in the background romance. I love fantasy but I have a shippy heart and I need a couple to root for and be excited about to really love a fantasy book. It doesnâ€™t have to overtake the story I just like it to be a thought or footnote. Even though this is so far from the meat of the story Royce actually says a few of the sweetest things about Gwen. They are few and far between but I love every world of his thoughts on Gwen.*** Heâ€™d would never admit it, not to Hadrian, and certainly not to Gwenâ€”didnâ€™t even like thinking it to himselfâ€”but somehow Gwen had become his fifth thing. To survive, Royce had only ever required four things: air, food, water, and sleep. He was less bothered by heat and cold than others and could live in a forest or field if need be. But those other four things were absolutes. Reluctantly, he had discovered Gwen had become the fifth. He could last longer without her than any of the others, but if too much time past, he felt the effects. Sick wasnâ€™t the right word; empty was closer, but even it didnâ€™t fit. Thin. He nodded to himself at the thought. That was it. He felt translucent, as if less of him existed when she wasnâ€™t there. I just never noticed how little of me existed before; I was a shadow without a person. He didnâ€™t know when it had happened or how heâ€™d let it happen, but somehow when he was without her he felt less than whole. Gwen had stolen part of him andâ€”No, she hasnâ€™t taken anything. Sheâ€™s given me something Iâ€™ve never had, and now I canâ€™t live without it. ***And with that I just swooned for Royce.I think this is the best of all the Prequels and so I really look forward to reading more with Hadrian and Royce if MJS has more stories of them in his head.Just a little note having nothing to do with the book really: I want to say how impressed I am with Michael J Sullivan. Not only as a writer but just as a person in general. He is an author that I think uses goodreads to itâ€™s fullest potential. He has commented on a few of my status updates for his books and reviews. Also he was kind enough to answer a PM I sent him and is my friend on Goodreads. I think he is really in touch with his readers and makes a lot of time for them. I know he became one of my favorite authors when I read the dedication he made to his wife in Heir of Novron*** This book is entirely dedicated to my wife, Robin Sullivan. Some have asked how it is I write such strong women without resorting to putting swords in their hands. It is because of her. She is Arista She is Thrace She is Modina She is Amilia And she is my Gwen. This series has been a tribute to her. This is your book, Robin. ****Michael J Sullivan is an author that I will happily recommend to anyone who is a fantasy lover.

Riyria is back! And just as fun, action packed, and intriguing as ever. Seriously, I love the humor with the witty banter between the two main guys. The action scenes are detailed enough to feel like you are watching it, but not so much you forget why they are fighting. And there are plenty of twists and turns in the plot to make you wonder what is going to happen next. I would love to point out many of the other things I thoroughly enjoyed, but that would include spoilers. So the few things I can mention include my liking of Gwen taking more of a back seat in this story. Don't get me wrong, I think she is an amazing strong character and I really do love her. But she kind of also had that way of stealing the spotlight. Which after the past two books of that, I wanted to read more about the guys. Another thing I liked is how well this story can fit in with the previous books or as a stand alone. Subtle hints towards the other books for veteran fans that won't leave newbies scratching their heads in clueless frustration. This book did not disappoint expectations and I am sad to say another good bye to Royce and Hadrian. I love this book!

How can I love Royce and Hadrian anymore? I canâ€™t. I just canâ€™t! I could read their stories forever. And ever. And never be bored.Much like the other books in Sullivanâ€™s Chronicles series, this follows Royce and Hadrian on one of their adventures. But what I loved even more about this book than the others is the banter between Royce and Hadrian. Now, itâ€™s been a while since I read the other books, but it felt much more dialog focused, honed in on Royce and Hadrianâ€™s give and take relationship. The two just clicked beautifully, in my opinion, which has made it my second favorite Sullivan book that Iâ€™ve read to date. I never wanted it to end. It made me ache to pick up the Revelations and Chronicles series again, and I admit to reading some of my favorite parts after I finished Death of Dulgath. I didnâ€™t realize how much I missed the boys. Such a great dynamic between them.I have a feeling this books ties into Sullivanâ€™s new Legends of the First Empire series, which is set in the same world eons before Royce and Hadrian come to be. Eventually Iâ€™ll be finding out if Iâ€™m right or not. I donâ€™t have much else to talk about. The plot is well laid out in the book description, and more than likely youâ€™ve already read the other books if youâ€™re considering this one. However, if youâ€™ve never picked up a Sullivan book, you must. You absolutely must. If youâ€™ve picked up the Revelations series and remotely liked it, then you really need to read the Chronicles. If youâ€™re a diehard fan like I am, this book wonâ€™t disappoint.Overall, I canâ€™t rave about Sullivan enough and what a wonderful character heâ€™s created in Royce. Matter of fact, Royce has risen to the top of my favorite characters of all time. Heâ€™s tied for first place with Raistlin Majere, which is a character Iâ€™ve been in love with since I was young. A few more books might even win Royce a sole position as number one. Hopefully Sullivan continues with the Chronicles and keeps Royce and Hadrian as the main focus of those books. Thatâ€™s what made this one and The Crown Tower my two favorite books of all time.

Funny, suspenseful & action packed. If you're a fan of Riyria you won't be disappointed. If you're not a fan you should probably start with either The Crown Tower ( chronological order) or Theft of Sword ( publication order) ...EITHER WAY YOU TRY THEM OUT!! The author is a wizard at storytelling!! This is the best series I've ever read. My favorite by far!!

My guess is, less than 10% of readers will have the patience to follow directions and perfect these recipes at home, another 15-20% will make a stab at it and come away with a new appreciation of donut shops, and the rest of us will just enjoy the read and then go looking for a good donut store, maybe even Top Pot at the local airport. I do look forward to making that chocolate donut cake, though!

I have had the pleasure of visiting the Top Pot Doughnut shop in Seattle and the doughnuts were delicious.I have tried various internet recipes for making donuts which all have yielded an heavy dense product nothing like what you get in a doughnut shop.So I gave this book a shot.I made the triple coconut cake doughnut. It was divine. They were a little difficult to handle due to such a wet sticky dough but I have to say they were the epitome of what a cake donut should be and were far better than 90% of the doughnut shops I've been to.The directions though technical, are easy to follow but I will say that some degree of baking experience is really needed.I would suggest a person watch some doughnut making videos on you tube to get a grasp of the process.I do agree with others that the print could be better....larger and/or darker.I will post a photograph of the finished product.Thank you Top Pot for sharing your recipesUpdate 6/11/13-I have now made the raised donuts, apple fritters and blackberry fritters. I made 6 round donuts with part of the raised dough and then used the scraps for the fritters which worked out perfectly. The less you handle the dough, the better your product will be and it's very difficult to get a good donut from the scraps. They were fabulous.I did not use agar for the glaze but you really do not need it. I also made the coconut cake donuts again only this time I rolled the dough in a rectangle and cut it in 1 inch by 5 inch pieces and made donut sticks. I chilled them again before frying because they are much easier to handle. YUM!!

I was very excited to buy this book as I love Top Pot's donuts. I especially wanted to try the "old fashioned" donuts. I had a terrible time deciphering the recipe because the font was so small and someone at the publishing house thought it would be cool to use the least legible color ink they could find. There simply isn't enough contrast between the background and the recipes' typeface. Apparently the target audience for this book are people who appreciate form over function.I returned the book and bought "Donuts: Simple and Delicious Recipes to Make at Home" (also available at Amazon). I can actually read this book and enjoy using it.

I've made doughnuts at home a few times and its fun. I've been using a basic recipe for cake doughnuts from an old Fannie Farmer cookbook. Easy and tasty. I've also done yeasted doughnuts a few times from an Alton Brown recipe. again, easy and satisfying.But I wanted to go beyond the basics so I picked up this doughnut book. The recipes look great. They appear to be excellent examples of standard doughnut types, which is exactly what I was looking for.Figuring it would be a simple morning project, I made the very first recipe, the spiced cake doughnut. First, the good part. The end result was very tasty with crunchy exterior and soft crumb.But I had some problems. As the book, and others, have noted, this is a very soft, sticky dough. Extremely difficult to work with, and I did chill it first. Its probably the wet dough that results in the wonderful texture in the finished doughnut. The Fannie Farmer recipe I had been using much easier to handle, but creates not a dry, but a sturdier doughnut. I managed to get the doughnuts cut and the holes out, but the dough just fell apart once I picked it up to put it in the oil. I ended up with a bunch of misshapen pieces of fried dough. Towards the end I did get one reasonable looking doughnut. I read another reviewer carefully transported the uncooked doughnuts with a spatula and I might try that. I think this dough can work but it must take a lot of practice. Fine for the doughnut shop but a lot of trouble for the home cook.I like to bake and have struggled with wet doughs before. It can be frustrating for anyone and for the casual home cook I worry this recipe will cause tears. Next time I make these doughnuts I'm going to try cutting back on the milk a bit. Perhaps 1/4 cup less. I figure I'll be losing a bit on texture for the sake of getting doughnuts made without so much cursing.Something else that struck me was the recipe yield. It said 12 doughnuts but I only got 6. So I checked my doughnut cutter. Mine is 3.5 inches. It is the Ateco model that is a best seller on amazon. It makes cake doughnuts the same size I've ever seem from any doughnut shop.But the recipe says to use a 2.75 inch cutter. Earlier, the book says "A traditional doughnut cutter has two concentric rings, one 2 3/4 in/7 cm across and one 1 1/4 in/3 cm in diameter." They are in the doughnut business, not me. And I'll try it with the smaller cutter. and get more doughnuts. But isn't a 2.75" cutter going to make a really small doughnut? and where do I get a 2.75 inch cutter. On amazon I see 2.5 inch cutters. If I search for 2.75 inch all I find are flimsy type doughnut cutter with the removable center hole.After cutting these doughnuts I swore I would throw the book away. But after I tasted the cooked doughnuts I decided I should persevere. I hope to make more doughnuts from the book and I will try to post updates here.

The book is written clearly and is easy to understand. It does not use a lot of exotic ingredients either. Bonus.I downloaded the electronic version of the book. The layout is normal for an ebook. The table of contents links to the techniques and recipes. You can bookmark and make notes and highlights.I was after a very particular sort of recipe because I appear to have lost my own recipe. While I did not find what I was searching for, these recipes I am sure will more than satisfy any doughnut lovers. If you are careful about following directions your final product will be pretty much like what you might find at your local doughnut shop. They include recipes for glazes and fillings as well. The flavor and texture never disappoint.Husband loved the plain ones, I enjoyed the fresh blueberry ones, and my youngest son was in it for the chocolate doughnuts. I did cheat and use half the batter one day and the rest the next day. Didn't seem to affect the quality at all.I can not imagine anyone being truly disappointed unless they miss something in the recipe. For best results, use an electronic scale for measuring the ingredients. And do not be tempted to add a lot of flour because it is sticky. The result will be heavy, dense doughnuts.Enjoy!

I admired the renditions of the rally BMC Mini, and the multiple views of the D50 Lancia/Ferrari may inspire you to pull out pencil and paper for some sketching of your own.

Illustrator Tony Gardiner has put together a very interesting book, covering a wide range of both styles and subject. With simple, step-by-step instructions on composition, cutaway illustrations and perspective this book should be useful to anyone who fancies themselves as an automotive artist. Gardiner's illustrations show what a good artist should be capable of producing. the lack of a section on computer-generated art shows the author is a little behind the times.

Illustrator Tony Gardiner covers a broad range of styles and subjects in 'How to Draw & Paint Cars'. Published by Veloce , this $35.95 paperback is an easy-to-follow introduction for budding automotive artists. Chapters on perspective, reflections and cutaways are excellent, but a section on computer tools would have been relevant.

About the Author
Tony Gardiner studied Graphic Design and Illustration at the West Sussex College of Art & Crafts in Worthing, during the late 1950’s. It was during this period his love of the motor car came to the fore, spurred on by the famous victory of the Ecurie Ecosse team of Jaguar D Types winning at Le Mans in 1957. This became clear when his progress report for 1957/58, stated “has a weakness for converting all his compositions into motoring or other mechanical illustrations, this must be curbed”. On leaving college he worked as an illustrator in the aviation industry, then to freelancing for various car magazines and then into the auto industry. Now specializing in illustrations in motoring publications and for private commissions for the likes of Rover Japan, Vauxhall, Motorsport, Pegueot, plus drivers such as Sir Stirling Moss and Derek Bell. Tony Gardiner’s work has graced the covers and pages of many motoring books and magazines. He is also an author in his own right, having published ‘Motor Racing at Goodwood in the Sixties’, ‘The Brighton National Speed Trials’ and ‘RAC Rally Action’, all of which are personal recollections of the famous motoring events.
